Idea projektu

The project explores memory as a spatial journey, where architecture becomes a medium to experience loss, reflection, awareness, and collective healing. Through fragmented geometric forms, the design symbolizes broken unity caused by war while creating spaces that reconnect people through remembrance, dialogue, and shared human experience.

Popis projektu

The Interpretation Center translates the memory of war and its victims into spatial experience, guiding visitors through reflection, awareness, and healing. Located in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, on the site of a former military arsenal that served as a clandestine detention center during 1976-1978, the architecture represents disruption, loss, and resilience. The form development begins with a pure hexagon representing unity and wholeness, which is then fractured, fragmented, and dispersed to reflect violence, division, trauma, scattered lives, and lost memories. Each fragment takes a role to serve different functions. The narrative moves through six stages: Isolation, Control, Violence, Absence, Recognition, and Collective Healing. Programs include historical exhibition, open-air space, pathways, and a memorial art gallery. The open-air theatre represents the reclaiming of public voice, transforming a space once marked by silence into one of collective expression and dialogue.

Technické informace

Built up area is 13,500 sq.m. The site is located along Route 9 (high-speed corridor) connecting to the city center and future development zones. A 200m radius zone is designated as a protected/sensitive area around key elements including Galpón 9 (main detention building), mass graves, and barracks buildings. A fragmented radial roof unfolds toward a central skylight, symbolizing voices rising from rupture into collective illumination. Design considerations include renewable energy potential (wind and solar), sustainable landscape-integrated design,, and strong winds affecting structural stability from the south.
