Idea projektu

Fragments of Memory - an interpretation center composed of angular blocks that appear like shards rising from the earth, symbolizing pieces of memory scattered across time, emerging from the landscape of a former military arsenal and clandestine detention center.

Popis projektu

The project is located at the former Miguel de Azcuénaga Arsenal in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, previously used as a military arsenal and clandestine detention center (1976-1978) during the military dictatorship. The design is guided by three main ideas: Fragmentation (history experienced as fragmented memories with separate buildings representing these pieces), Emergence (angular forms appearing to emerge from the ground, symbolizing buried stories resurfacing through interpretation), and Reflection (a central memory garden offering quiet space for contemplation). Each block houses a different narrative component, while the central memory garden acts as a contemplative space where visitors reconnect these fragments into a collective understanding of the past. The visitor experience journey follows stages of arrival, exploration through individual pavilions, reflection in the central memory garden, and departure with deeper understanding of the historical narrative. Underground axes representing forced choices connect the pavilions along axes of exile and holocaust.

Technické informace
