Idea projektu

Wounds to Wisdom — transforming a historically isolated military land in San Miguel de Tucuman into an interpretation center that guides visitors through a spatial journey from wound (past) through reflection (present) to wisdom (future), using light as the main design element to influence human emotion in each space.

Popis projektu

The project is located on the northern periphery of San Miguel de Tucuman, Argentina, on formerly isolated military land now becoming part of the growing urban fabric. The concept organizes the program into three spatial zones: Wound (Past), Reflection (Present), and Wisdom (Future). The Wound space uses dark interiors with a zig-zag spatial flow so visitors feel lost and confused, evoking the dark history of the site. The Reflection zone is an art gallery with minimal light, allowing visitors to contemplate and understand the history. The Wisdom zone includes classrooms, amphitheater, and open/semi-open learning spaces with maximum light, serving as spaces for recollection and learning. Light plays a major role throughout, with each zone having a different lighting factor that shapes the spatial and emotional experience.

Technické informace

Site has a gradual contour ride from 510m to 550m. Located in humid subtropical climate with hot summers (30-38°C) and mild winters (10-20°C). Connected through Route 9, a major metropolitan corridor. Site plan at scale 1:5000. Conceptual zoning places entry leading to Wound (Past) zone, then Reflection zone, then Wisdom (Future) zone in a sequential spatial narrative.
