Idea projektu

An urban instrument of active memory — not a static museum of remembrance, but a living public environment that keeps history present through collective participation, education, dialogue, and cultural engagement, located on a former clandestine detention and torture site in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina.

Popis projektu

Located in San Miguel de Tucumán, the site once functioned as a clandestine detention, torture, and extermination center during the Argentine military dictatorship between 1976 and 1978. The project interprets the site as a concealed landscape of erased histories, where acts of violence were hidden beneath apparently ordinary terrain. Through controlled architectural incision, the ground is cut open to reveal embedded spaces of memory. The built form emerges as a continuation of the land, its sloping roof acting as a veil that both conceals and exposes. The conceptual zoning includes entry/exit, learning spaces, gallery, memory plaza, and commercial premises. Guided through a structured spatial sequence, visitors move from knowledge to confrontation to collective reflection, transforming memory into an active and participatory experience.

Technické informace

Green roofs reduce heat gain, sloped roofs merge with landscape, green roofs slow surface runoff. Existing structures preserved as historical witnesses. Architecture designed as an emotional and experiential journey. Green network integrated with memorial circulation. No underground construction, open transitional spaces enhance comfort. The site has a gradual contour rise from 510m to 550m. Humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters, temperature range 30-38°C summer and 10-20°C winter. Form development proceeds through site analysis, axis establishment for primary movement and circulation, and fragmented geometries symbolizing rupture, absence, and fragmented memories. Scale 1:5000.
