Idea projektu

Transformation of the former Miguel de Azcuénaga Arsenal, a military arsenal and clandestine detention center during Argentina's military dictatorship (1976-1978), into a memorial park, bioreserve, and interpretation center that commemorates history while fostering life and regeneration.

Popis projektu

The project is located at the former Miguel de Azcuénaga Arsenal in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina. The design includes a political gallery shaped as a series of knots to create feelings of expansion and contraction, a 360 audio visual dome buried into the earth surrounded by a moat, a memorial park and bioreserve turning barren regions into a bustling biosphere reserve and community hub, a memorial art gallery planned in a circular loop to convey continuity in history, a conference and classroom complex designed after the national bird Rufous Hornero with two wings and a central heart symbolizing hard work and unity, a concert hall buried into the earth in the shape of a hornero nest with double-layered organic envelope for thermal regulation, and a monument and memory plaza with 7 stepped pyramidal berms carved from the earth and overrun by nature. The circulation is based on tangles, with the interpretation centre ending at a knot, representing the unchangeable events in the site's history.
