Idea projektu

An architectural interpretation of fragmented human emotions and memories, exploring the journey from darkness, silence, and emotional fragmentation toward reflection, healing, and hope through broken forms, shifting pathways, water reflections, and the interaction of light and shadow.

Popis projektu

The project transforms the Arsenal Memory Park site in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina — a historically sensitive military site of approximately 350 hectares that served as a clandestine detention center during 1976-1978 — into a large-scale urban memory park and interpretation centre dedicated to remembrance, reflection, education, and cultural activities. The design uses broken and fragmented pathways to represent incomplete and scattered human memories, creating pauses, shifts, and moments of reflection instead of direct movement. Visitors move through spaces of silence and shadow before reaching light-filled reflective areas, symbolizing the transition from emotional pain and confusion toward healing and clarity. The program includes a pavilion, conference room complex, memory plaza, shade house, commercial complex, administration building, and amphitheatre.

Technické informace

The site is located in a subtropical humid climate zone with summers reaching 30-40°C and winters 10-20°C. The terrain features a gentle slope rising toward the west with natural runoff collection basin characteristics. Key elements include Galpón 9 (main building), mass graves, and abandoned buildings. A 200m radius zone is designated as protected/sensitive area. Existing structures on site include barracks, administration building, workshops, guard posts, and water tower. The site integrates into the existing city fabric through an urban design approach while respecting its isolated history.
