Idea projektu

This project explores the relationship between high-rise urban development and the evolving identity of Bangkok. Situated within the rapidly transforming urban context of Sukhumvit–Asok, the proposal investigates how contemporary vertical architecture can coexist with the informal, layered, and adaptive character that defines the city.

The project originates from the observation that many modern high-rise developments within Bangkok often erase existing social and spatial conditions, replacing them with isolated architectural objects that disconnect themselves from the surrounding urban fabric. Such developments frequently create intimidating transitions between public and private realms, diminishing the accessibility, spontaneity, and street-level vitality that are essential to Bangkok’s identity.

In response, the project proposes an alternative approach to high-rise architecture through the concept of “Bangkasual” a synthesis between Bangkok’s informal urban culture and contemporary vertical living. Rather than treating the tower as a singular isolated object, the project reinterprets the high-rise as an extension of the city itself: layered, porous, adaptive, and continuously interconnected with public life.

The design aims to create seamless spatial transitions between programs, circulation systems, public spaces, and private functions. Inspired by Bangkok’s layered contradictions where commercial activity, spirituality, infrastructure, and everyday life coexist simultaneously the project introduces transitional spaces, pocket programs, and integrated circulation networks that reduce the psychological barriers commonly associated with large-scale developments.

Popis projektu

The scope of this project focuses on the development of a mixed-use high-rise architecture that responds to the urban, cultural, and social conditions of Bangkok. Located within the Sukhumvit–Asok district, the proposal addresses the increasing pressure of urban densification while preserving the city’s informal and human-centered identity.

The project investigates how high-rise architecture can move beyond the conventional isolated tower typology and instead function as an extension of Bangkok’s existing urban fabric. The design solution incorporates a combination of public, semi-public, and private programs organized through a vertically layered system that promotes continuous interaction, accessibility, and spatial connectivity.

Technické informace

he development consists of a multi-level podium connected to a high-rise tower structure. The podium functions as a transitional urban interface that integrates public circulation, retail programs, communal activities, and green public spaces. The tower accommodates residential and mixed-use programs organized through vertically connected circulation systems and shared communal zones.
