The Foreground-Background concept shapes a weekend cottage designed for a filmmaker and his family, where every view is a frame, every space tells a story, and every layer creates depth, emotion, and connection. Just like filmmaking, life at the cottage is about layers, framing, and focus.

A weekend cottage designed for a family of 4 members consisting of a filmmaker husband, wife, and two daughters. The design uses cinematic principles of foreground, midground, and background to create layered spaces that balance intimacy and connection. Raised and sunken spaces create cinematic foreground-background experiences. The raised living room creates visual importance and openness, framing the landscape as a cinematic background. The sunken dining space creates intimacy and spatial depth, enhancing interaction through enclosed seating.

Technické informace

The project employs raised and sunken floor levels to differentiate spatial experiences. The raised living room frames landscape views as cinematic backgrounds while the sunken dining area enhances intimacy through enclosed seating arrangements. Large glazed openings connect interior spaces with the surrounding landscape.
