Idea projektu

A beach-side house in ECR, Chennai inspired by photography, where the staircase acts as the main focal point of the house with large glass openings framing the sea and providing direct visual connection to the ocean.

Popis projektu

The project is a residential house designed for a family of four on the beach-side of ECR, Chennai. The design is inspired by photography concepts - the progression from eye to camera to frame to focus point to staircase. The form draws inspiration from The Gherkin Tower. The house is tailored to the needs of each family member: a photographer father requiring a calm workspace and sea-view balcony, a mother needing a comfortable kitchen with natural light and ventilation, a 20-year-old son studying media and visual communication who needs a small studio corner and terrace access, and a 15-year-old daughter requiring a quiet bedroom and study corner with safe outdoor interaction space.

Technické informace

The project is a two-storey weekend cottage designed for a family of four. The building is constructed using an RCC framed structure with brick masonry walls. Large glass openings and balconies are provided to maximize sea views, natural daylight, and cross ventilation. The roof is insulated to reduce heat gain and improve thermal comfort. Sustainable features include rainwater harvesting, energy-efficient lighting, and natural ventilation. The design responds to the coastal climate and provides comfortable living and working spaces for the family.
