Idea projektu

Revitalization of the historic Branické ledárny (ice houses) area, transforming the industrial heritage site into a vibrant urban market and public space that integrates the existing historical structures with new crystalline architectural forms.

Popis projektu

The project transforms the historic Branické ledárny site into a market hall (tržnice) and public space. The concept draws from the crystalline geometry of ice, using angular, faceted forms that reference the site's industrial heritage as former ice storage facilities. The design creates a new market structure that connects to the surrounding urban fabric while preserving and integrating the existing historical buildings. The approach involves embedding the new intervention into the terrain, creating a semi-subterranean market space covered by a translucent crystalline roof structure. The project establishes new pedestrian connections and public spaces around the market, linking the site to the riverfront and the broader neighborhood.

Technické informace

The project includes floor plans, cross-sections, and elevations at various scales (1:500, 1:200). The main market hall features a large-span roof structure with translucent/glass panels. The building is partially embedded into the sloping terrain, with the main floor level at approximately -4.000. The design incorporates connections to existing infrastructure including pedestrian pathways, vehicular access, and parking. Materials include a combination of the preserved historical masonry structures and new contemporary elements with a blue-toned translucent cladding system.
