Idea projektu

A farewell space at the cemetery in Dolní Břežany that serves not only as a place of mourning but also as a space for contemplation, tranquility, and connection with nature.

Popis projektu

The project is a funeral hall located at the cemetery in Dolní Břežany, in the Praha-západ district. The design responds to the site's natural surroundings and landscape character. The composition derives from the motif of a Celtic cross, with the entire space formed by circular stone walls, greenery, and water features. The main concept was to create an open, calm space connected with surrounding nature, functioning as the cemetery itself. The main ceremonial space is designed as an open atrium where a simple podium for the coffin is placed, surrounded by greenery and a natural setting. The building also includes a café that extends the use of the building beyond funeral ceremonies, connecting to the idea of an open cemetery as part of everyday community life. Natural materials are used throughout, with stone facades referencing local cemetery stones and landscape rock, and larch wood in the interior providing warmth and naturalness.
