A municipal library in Roztoky u Prahy designed with the concept 'Outside the Box', combining a traditional box-like form with an organic curved interior element that extends the library's function beyond conventional boundaries into the surrounding landscape.
The project proposes a new municipal library in Roztoky u Prahy. The building features a rectangular outer shell contrasted with an organic, curved inner core that houses various functions including a study room, dance hall, and relaxation zone. The design integrates a green roof with photovoltaic panels and creates a strong connection between interior and exterior spaces. The ground floor and upper floor plans show fluid, organic-shaped spaces within the orthogonal building envelope. The multifunctional space on the upper level provides flexible areas for community use.
The building utilizes a construction system with concrete structure and materials with reduced CO2 emissions. The energy concept includes photovoltaic panels on the roof, rainwater collection and treatment systems, and a green roof for stormwater management. The heating system uses a heat pump. Water management includes rainwater absorption through vegetated surfaces and collection into a municipal park retention system. The structural scheme shows basement, ground floor, first floor, and second floor levels with clear span construction.
