The concept of the building's placement and form derives from an analysis of solar paths. The building is oriented to maximize the use of photovoltaic panels placed on the sloped roof. This approach contributes to reducing energy demands while the sawtooth roof structure allows optimal natural lighting of the interior.
The assignment is to design a high-quality, attractive and functionally effective sports and recreational complex with a landscape setting, which will become a natural center for sports, movement and community life in Ďáblice. The main output of the design is a new multifunctional sports hall serving organized sports, school physical education and the general public. The facades use light wood which sensitively integrates into the character of surrounding development and does not disturb the overall feel of the locality.
The building is a two-story structure with floor plans showing basketball/sports courts on both levels. The construction system features a repeating sawtooth roof structure visible in the cross-section and elevation drawings. The structural solution shows a timber frame system with triangulated roof trusses providing north-facing clerestory windows for natural daylighting.
