An entrance pavilion for the Výstaviště Holešovice exhibition grounds in Prague, inspired by a wave form that creates a dynamic, organic canopy structure serving as a gateway to the complex.
The project proposes a new entrance object for the Výstaviště Holešovice area. The design concept draws from the dynamic form of a wave, creating a flowing timber structure that serves as both an architectural landmark and a functional entrance pavilion. The undulating roof structure creates covered spaces below while maintaining visual permeability and connection to the surrounding historic exhibition grounds. The building accommodates a cafe, multifunctional spaces, and ticketing areas across two floors. The organic geometry of the structure contrasts with and complements the existing historic architecture of the exhibition grounds, including the prominent industrial palace.
The structure uses a timber gridshell construction system with curved glulam elements forming the wave-shaped roof. Materials include timber structural elements, copper cladding, and glass infill panels. The building is organized on two levels with floor plans at 1:150 scale showing the ground floor with cafe and entrance functions and the upper floor. Sections (A-A and B-B at 1:150) reveal the undulating profile of the roof structure. The site plan at 1:1000 shows the building's placement at the entrance to the exhibition grounds.
