Idea projektu

The thesis concerns the development of an architectural and urban design concept for two residential buildings with social functions located in the Jeżyce district of Poznań. The aim of the study is to determine whether, and to what extent, the transformation of a fragment of an urban block can improve the quality of living space.

Popis projektu

The conducted urban analyses and research indicate that intervention at the scale of two plots has the potential to improve spatial quality; however, the problems occurring within the block are systemic in nature and mutually affect all of its parts. Therefore, the scope of the project was extended to include the entire interior of the block, enabling a comprehensive response. Two new mixed-use residential buildings provide housing, ground-floor commercial spaces, bicycle facilities, and access to shared courtyard areas. The design increases the amount of green space by introducing gardens, trees, recreational areas, and rainwater-retaining landscapes. Together, these changes create a more open, accessible, and community-focused environment.

Technické informace

Both buildings employ a hybrid structural system that combines non-combustible concrete elements with low-carbon prefabricated CLT timber components. The concrete “shell” provides fire safety and structural rigidity, while the timber floors and internal load-bearing walls help reduce the project's carbon footprint. The buildings feature ventilated façades and differentiated exterior finishes, using either GRC panels or mechanically fixed ceramic tiles.
