A café addition built above an existing Sokol gymnasium building, creating a new public amenity that integrates with the historic structure while adding a contemporary glass-clad upper level.
The project proposes the conversion and extension of an existing Sokol hall (sokolovna) to incorporate a café on an upper level. The design preserves the original building's character while introducing a modern curved glass volume at the rooftop level. The building program includes the existing gymnasium and community spaces on the lower floors, with the new café occupying the added upper story. Floor plans show three levels with the ground floor maintaining the sports hall, the second floor containing ancillary spaces, and the third floor housing the café with panoramic views. The façade treatment contrasts the existing rendered masonry walls with the new transparent glass addition.
The project includes detailed cross-sections through the sokolovna and café, a comprehensive wall section at 1:20 scale showing construction layers, 3D structural axonometry revealing the steel/timber frame construction of the addition, building energy concept analysis, thermal loss calculations through building envelope components, and interior heating system design. The roof detail shows insulation layers and waterproofing membrane assemblies. Energy performance diagrams and optimal heating source analysis are provided.
