Project Title: One More Step
“One More Step” is a small pavilion placed just outside the academic block. The name works as an invitation. It encourages students to take one step away from their routine and enter a space that feels open, calm, and social.
The idea is simple. A student is walking between classes, feeling tired or stressed. This pavilion attracts them. They take one more step and find a place to sit, relax, talk, or study.
The pavilion is positioned at the edge of the new campus. From here, users can see the buildings, the open lawn, and daily campus life. It becomes both a pause point and a viewing platform.
The main goal is to create a small but meaningful space that supports comfort, interaction, and mental relaxation in an academic environment.

Popis projektu

This pavilion was designed as part of a semester task to create a seating space for small student groups.
The design was developed using two simple geometric forms. A triangular frame defines the entrance and creates a clear point of arrival, while a rotated square forms the main seating zone. This approach keeps the structure simple but visually engaging.
The space supports 2 to 3 groups at a time. Students can use it for studying, casual discussion, or simply sitting in the sun, especially during winter when outdoor warmth is important.
The form is open and welcoming. It does not block views. Instead, it frames them. Users sitting inside can observe the campus, watch activities, and feel connected to the surroundings.
The pavilion also works as a stress relief point. Students who feel pressure from studies can sit here, breathe, and reset their focus.
Another important aspect is hands-on learning. The project was not only designed but also built as a practical exercise. It allowed exploration of materials, construction, and real-scale design.
The pavilion is now built on site and fully functional. It is actively used by students in the way it was intended. Small groups gather here for study, discussion, and relaxation. Many students also use the space to take photos and selfies, which shows that the pavilion has become a recognizable and engaging spot within the campus. The project successfully creates both a functional seating area and a social landmark.

Technické informace

The design started from basic geometric forms. Simple shapes were combined and adjusted to create a light and visually interesting structure.
The project focuses on low-cost and reused materials. The aim was to build something durable within a very small budget.
• Structure: Bamboo was used as the structural material because it is affordable, lightweight, and strong
• Reinforcement: Steel elements were added for Main Structural at key for stability & Strength
• Screening Element: Rope was used to create a jali that frames views and adds texture
• Entrance Covering: Tarpal was used over the triangular entrance frame to provide shade and weather protection
• Seating: Existing benches were taken from the campus store, repaired, and reused
• Additional Elements: Small wood pieces were used to create hanging planters, adding greenery to the space
• Design Duration: 4 weeks
• Construction Duration: 7 days
• Total Budget: Less than 100 USD
The project shows how simple materials and basic construction methods can create a functional and engaging space.
