Idea projektu

Against the backdrop of large-scale abandoned subway tunnels in urban areas, this project addresses the critical issue of underutilized underground infrastructure and disconnected urban communities. Inspired by the potential of these forgotten spaces, the core idea is to transform obsolete metro lines into a three-dimensional "Symbiotic Channel"—a multi-functional corridor that integrates ecological restoration, public activity, and pipeline logistics. The goal is to revitalize urban voids, reconnect divided neighborhoods, and create a sustainable, inclusive public space that balances human activity, ecological health, and urban infrastructure.

Popis projektu

This project proposes a comprehensive adaptive reuse design for abandoned subway tunnels, centered on the concept of a "Symbiotic Channel". The design consists of three core functional zones: 1) An ecological symbiosis zone, which integrates vertical greening and agricultural cultivation to restore the underground ecosystem; 2) A public circulation corridor, which provides accessible pedestrian paths, viewing platforms, and community activity spaces to connect two separated urban communities; 3) A smart logistics pipeline system, which repurposes the original tunnel structure for sustainable urban transportation and resource delivery. The scheme adopts a modular construction approach, preserving the existing tunnel structure while inserting new steel frame systems and prefabricated components, achieving a balance between heritage preservation and innovative urban renewal.

Technické informace

The project retains the original reinforced concrete structure of the abandoned subway tunnel as the main load-bearing system. A new light steel frame structure is inserted to support the multi-level functional spaces, including pedestrian walkways, planting areas, and pipeline corridors. Modular prefabricated components are adopted for rapid construction, reducing on-site disturbance. The vertical greening system uses a combination of hydroponic and soil-based planting, with an integrated intelligent irrigation system. The pipeline logistics system adopts a gravity-driven and electric-assisted transportation mode, realizing low-carbon urban resource circulation. The design also incorporates natural light introduction shafts and ventilation systems to improve the underground microclimate, ensuring a comfortable and sustainable public space.
