Idea projektu

Core Theme: The Transparency of Living — The Modern Evolution of Taipei’s Walk-up Apartments.
This design explores the balance between "preserving local living wisdom" and "creating public dignity" within the context of urban renewal. The concept stems from the unique resilience found in Taipei’s walk-up apartments: residents leave personal "marks" through private objects in public spaces, while the public space "wraps" these traces in unspecified shapes.
I translate this spontaneous behavioral logic into an architectural language, viewing the building as a "living vitrine". It not only reflects the dynamic boundary between residential units and public space but also depicts the intimate and transparent relationship between the dwellers and their environment.

Popis projektu

Ground Level (Urban Porosity): By hollowing out the building’s base (Piloti), the texture and energy of the city’s alleys are allowed to "horizontally infiltrate" the interior, dissolving the absolute boundary between public and private realms.
Atrium and Corridors (The Social Filter): The circular corridor serves as a "vertical 3D street," utilizing varying widths and split-levels to create "pocket spaces". An outer lightweight framework wraps the corridor, accommodating the daily rhythms of laundry, gardening, and social lingering, acting as a social catalyst.
Rooftop Space (Urban Infrastructure): The top floor is transformed into shared infrastructure, featuring vertical farms and micro-workshops, serving as a vertical extension and response to the ground-level atrium.
Transparency of Life: The building is no longer a closed mass but a porous organism that transforms the chaotic life of old apartments into a precise and dignified spatial aesthetic.

Technické informace

Structural System: The rugged reinforced concrete (RC) frames of the original walk-up are preserved as a foundational memory, upon which lightweight CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) and glass panel are "parasitically" integrated.
Interface Materials: Extensive use of polycarbonate panels and glass railing replaces traditional heavy brick walls. This enhances visual transparency while promoting natural lighting and thermal convection.
Micro-climate Regulation: The design leverages the vertical stack effect of the atrium and the rooftop's green screen to create a self-regulating "micro-climate catalyst".
Modular Balcony: Multi-functional frames are designed to evolve the defensive logic of traditional "iron window flowers" into a "living support system" for storage and display.
