Huddersfield Women's Hospital
Project idea The Specialized Healthcare centre (SHC) brings together functionality and harmony, is designed to get an intuitive linear circulation among the hospital. Utilizing the programmed areas to derive the volumetric massing from the functional distribution is a successful approach, especially for a healthcare facility. The vertical zoning provides the necessary hierarchy and organization, effectively separating common areas from specialized departments.
The main elevation is clean and creates an inviting entrance. However, the East and West facades could be improved; while they exhibit contemporary and avant-garde architecture, they lack solar shading for peak hours or a technical detail showing the shading devices relative to the solar path. Furthermore, the corridor where the two facades face each other should be refined, as it creates a space lacking natural ventilation and direct daylighting.
It would be beneficial to provide a construction detail to identify the types of columns and beams to be used, which would help reinforce the structural design. I also consider it best practice to generate a study model to better understand the building's site integration.
Projects of this nature are vital for creating spaces for holistic well-being. Thank you for developing the Huddersfield Women's Hospital project; I hope these observations prove useful for your future endeavors.
