Arsenal Memory Park: Futuristic Metabolic City

Project idea

Arsenal Memory Park proposes a paradigm shift in large-scale urban master planning, bridging the gap between historical contemplation and future-forward sustainable living. The core concept establishes a multi-modal "Memory Boulevard" that slices through a dense, living city grid, seamlessly connecting a highly active, productive agricultural landscape with a reflective, culturally rich memorial park.
The project transforms a site of historical trauma into a living, "Metabolic City"—a space dedicated to Active Memory, where the preservation of history catalyzes dialogue, education, and social progress.

Project description

The masterplan deploys a tripartite urban strategy to synthesize public life, memory, and ecology:

-The Urban Grid: A dynamic, mixed-use residential and commercial matrix. Building heights strategically step down from 5 to 2 floors toward the park, utilizing terraced green roofs to maximize sightlines and integrate nature into the built environment.

-The Cultural Heart: A central, naturalistic lake anchored by highly sculptural, standalone memorial nodes—such as the faceted Hieterturm Spire and the monolithic Memorial Art Gallery. These structures create an immersive, experiential circulation loop.

-The Productive Edge: A transitional civic zone featuring terraced urban farming grids that flow directly into a bustling Agri-Food Market, sheltered by a biomimetic canopy. This closes the loop between community living, commerce, and sustainable agriculture.

Technical information

Masterplan Strategy: High-density orthogonal grid tapering into fluid, low-density ecological and institutional parklands.

Key Programmatic Distribution: Cultural & Exhibition (~9,000m²), Open Memorial Plaza (~2,500m²), Education & Administrative Support (~5,000m²).

Architectural Language: Advanced computational design driving parametric morphogenesis for public canopies and memorial spires; contrasted with highly tectonic, layered, and weathered materiality for the mixed-use grid.

Infrastructure & Sustainability: Closed-loop urban farming irrigation, multi-modal transit hubs (light rail and cycling networks), intensive green roof stormwater filtration, and optimized solar-path massing.
