Weekend cottage with the concept 'Archipelago' where anyone can come to stay for vacation near the beach.

Project description

The project involves a comprehensive site analysis for a weekend cottage. The site is near-rectangular, approximately 1856.99 sq.m., located along the East Coast Road in Chennai. The surrounding context includes beach, residential buildings, and trees. The building is split into seperate buildings connected by open spaces using bridges and pathways and there is use of level play to create an interesting and adventurous weekend cottage that creates interest. The buildings are split in accordance to functions and they are organic in shape to represent islands. Each building is known as an island and the whole cottage comprises of 4 islands; 1. social hub 2. quiet retreat 3. service island 3. private island.

Technical information

Road location along the north side, 9m wide road with vehicular access from the 4m road. Water access from ground water, municipal pipelines, and nearby coastal infrastructure. Electricity supply through nearby residential connections. Drainage uses natural slope towards sea and roadside storm water drains. Inferences include: cottage placed near eastern edge for sea views, setback from road ensures privacy and reduced noise, oriented east to capture sea breeze, open spaces oriented towards sea for ventilation, and landscape buffers provided along south and west edges.
