Project idea

Wana Bhumi is a museum that showcases the culture of Majapahit and Trowulan. By adopting the main concepts of Sanga Mandala and the Majapahit Solar Axis, this museum serves as a medium that connects the existing museum, Balong Dowo, Balong Bundar, Segaran Pool, and all other remaining sites in the Trowulan area. In addition, the museum highlights the theme of the Majapahit Forest, which is not merely a collection of trees, but a living archive that reveals the secrets of Majapahit beneath the ground, a place where nature safeguards the memory of civilization and rekindles life.

Project description

Wana Bhumi is realized through a building layout that follows the cosmological orientation of sanga mandala, where each axis and cardinal direction serves as a marker of the connection between the living forest on the surface and the archaeological traces of Majapahit beneath it, turning the site into a landscape of memory that continuously regenerates.

Technical information

The building consciously incorporates traditional materials from Trowulan, utilizing brick as the primary element to foster a strong sense of locality. This brickwork is adapted through various techniques and seamlessly combined with contemporary materials and finishes. Furthermore, the inclusion of clay roof tiles featuring distinctive Trowulan motifs serves as a vital element in preserving the region's rich cultural heritage.
