Exploring South Indian vernacular architectural style through local materials and traditional design elements adapted to the regional climate.

Project description

The concept board presents key elements of South Indian vernacular architecture including: 1. Local materials according to climate. 2. Wooden pillars as a hallmark of South Indian architecture. 3. Tiled roofs (terracotta) sloped for heavy rainfall areas. 4. Jali works for ventilation, light filtering, and aesthetics. 5. Courtyards as central spaces for ventilation and natural light. 6. Oxide flooring and Athangudi tiles used.

Technical information

The board highlights traditional construction techniques including terracotta tiled sloped roofs for rain management, jali screens for passive ventilation and natural light filtering, central courtyards for air circulation, wooden structural pillars, and traditional oxide flooring with Athangudi tiles.
