Project idea

Conversion of the historic Braník ice houses, drawing from their history and original purpose while creating a new multifunctional public space that reconnects the building with the river and surrounding landscape.

Project description

The design stems from the history of the Braník ice houses and the original principle of storing ice. The project transforms the existing industrial building into a new cultural and community facility. The concept draws inspiration from ice formation processes, the flow of water, and the relationship between the building and the Vltava riverbank. The new structure creates a distinctive roof form reminiscent of organic ice formations, supported by tree-like column structures. The design connects the river embankment with the surrounding neighborhood and railway station. The goal is to create a vibrant public venue that serves as a meeting place for the local community and visitors.

Technical information

The project includes floor plans at 1:350 scale (ground floor and second floor), cross and longitudinal sections at 1:350, site plan at 1:2750, northwest and southwest elevations at 1:350, and axonometric views. The structural system features distinctive tree-like column supports carrying an expressive organic roof structure. The building appears to incorporate large open spans with glazed facades.
