A lightweight pavilion café structure using a modular red steel framework system, creating an open-air social space within an urban courtyard setting.
The project proposes a café pavilion using a modular construction system based on a repeating structural grid. The lightweight steel framework in red serves as both structure and visual identity, with fabric canopies and translucent/opaque panel infills. The design creates semi-enclosed spaces for seating, socializing, and café functions while maintaining visual permeability and connection to the surrounding urban context. The structure allows for flexible configurations and creates varied spatial experiences through the interplay of open frames, covered areas, and enclosed zones.
The structure uses a modular system at 1:200 and 1:100 scales. Floor plans show the layout of café functions within the steel framework. Sections reveal the relationship between the pavilion and surrounding buildings. An architectural detail of the railing system shows steel tube connections with welded joints. Material inspirations include fabric textures, wood, and concrete surfaces.
