Project idea

The aim of the design is a functional and formal transformation of an existing industrial building of former ice houses into a contemporary social center while preserving its original urban appearance.

Project description

The Branické ledárny project focuses on the revitalization and adaptation of a former industrial ice house complex. The architectural approach emphasizes spatial redistribution, vertical interconnection of floors, and creation of a volumetric central space. The dominant feature of the building is a central metal lattice structure that graduates into the superstructure, referencing the industrial character of the original building. The renovation combines three materials: reinforced concrete skeleton, steel construction with copper patina, and large-format glazing made of tempered glass. These materials allow achieving the desired degree of transparency and ensure sufficient natural daylight. The result is a functionally utilized space that connects modernity with industrial heritage and the history of the city.

Technical information

The structural system uses reinforced concrete load-bearing elements, steel construction with copper patina coating, and tempered glass panels (ESG). The project includes underground level (1PP), ground floor (1NP), and second floor (2NP). Floor plans are at 1:600 scale, sections at 1:400, and elevations (south, west, north, east) at 1:400.
