A chapel and memorial dedicated to the victims of the communist regime, designed as a striking red brick structure with a prominent cross motif, accompanied by a forest of vertical memorial elements.
The project 'Red Tower of Death' (Rudá věž smrti) is a chapel and monument to victims of the communist regime. The design features a simple gabled chapel form clad in red brick, with a large cross cut into the facade that allows light to penetrate the interior. The chapel is complemented by an outdoor memorial consisting of an array of vertical wooden or concrete poles arranged in a grid pattern, creating an atmospheric forest-like installation. The site is located near an existing tower structure, with the broader context including Horní Žďár, Dolní Žďár, and an area called Ostrov. The interior space is defined by the rhythmic pattern of vertical elements visible in the section and plan drawings, creating a contemplative atmosphere with filtered light.
The project includes site plan (situace), concept diagrams, axonometric views, longitudinal and cross sections (řez, řez příčný), floor plan (půdorys), and elevations (pohledy). The chapel has a simple rectangular plan with a pitched roof. The memorial (pomník) consists of numerous vertical elements arranged in a scattered pattern around the chapel.
