Project idea

A farewell space at the Dolní Břežany cemetery that works with the concept of horizon as a symbolic boundary between life and death, creating a contemplative place for mourning and reflection.

Project description

The project is situated at the cemetery in Dolní Břežany, designed as a space for farewell ceremonies. The building is embedded into the terrain, working with the horizontal landscape and the symbolism of crossing beyond the horizon. The dominant feature is a concrete structure that integrates into the cemetery context, with the main compositional axis leading visitors through a sequence of spaces. The design features a rooftop terrace accessible as a contemplative space where visitors can look toward the horizon. The interior spaces are characterized by raw concrete walls, wooden benches, and carefully controlled natural light creating an atmosphere appropriate for farewell ceremonies.
