Project idea

A municipal library for Roztoky u Prahy that consolidates all library functions, a café, and community spaces into a compact building with a distinctive saddle roof form that creates a covered public space at the main street level.

Project description

The design integrates all required programs — library, café, and ancillary spaces — into a compact volume. The building form references the surrounding residential roofscape while creating a distinctive public presence. On the ground floor, the café and library with a children's corner and coworking space are located, while the upper floor contains a multifunctional hall that can be subdivided as needed. The building features green accessible roofs, and the public space extends to street level. The project includes sustainable strategies such as rainwater harvesting, solar panels for electricity generation, and heat pump integration with mechanical ventilation for energy-efficient heating.

Technical information

The building is organized across two floors (1NP and 2NP). The ground floor contains the library (366 m²), café (63 m²), and ancillary spaces (261 m²). A multifunctional hall (125 m²) is located on the upper level. The structural scheme shows a timber frame construction with exposed wooden roof trusses. Sustainable resource strategies include rainwater collection and reuse for irrigation, solar panel integration for electricity generation, and heat pump with VZT (mechanical ventilation) for heating. The thermal envelope analysis shows wall and roof assemblies optimized for energy performance. The building achieves approximately 25°C interior comfort with about 85.6 kWh energy usage.
