Project idea

A foundation building dedicated to Zdeněk Sýkora located in Prague's Letná district, designed as a cultural complex that integrates exhibition spaces, educational facilities, and public gathering areas while responding to the specific urban context of the site.

Project description

The project proposes a cultural foundation building in Prague, Letná, that serves as both a repository and exhibition venue for Zdeněk Sýkora's legacy. The architectural concept responds to the surrounding urban structure with a compact complex featuring distinct volumes. The building includes exhibition spaces, an atrium, a café and bookshop, educational and workshop spaces, and administrative areas. The design employs a material palette that references industrial and modernist aesthetics, using exposed concrete and glass to create a dialogue between the building's interior program and the surrounding park and urban fabric. The complex is organized around key programmatic elements: exhibition halls for rotating and permanent displays, a multifunctional hall, studio and workshop spaces for educational programs, and communal areas that connect to the exterior landscape.

Technical information

The building features floor plans across multiple levels including underground parking, ground floor with main exhibition and public spaces, and upper floors with administrative and additional gallery areas. The structural system appears to be reinforced concrete with large glazed facades. The plans show careful consideration of circulation, with the atrium serving as a central organizing element. Sections reveal varying ceiling heights adapted to different programmatic needs, with the tallest volumes dedicated to exhibition spaces.
