Project idea

A new civic amenity building at the edge of a piazzetta and park in the spa town of Lázně Poděbrady, serving as a gateway from the spa quarter into town life. The building creates a new small square (piazzetta) together with an adjacent park, forming a pleasant public space.

Project description

The House at the Piazzetta is located at the boundary between a piazzetta and a park in Lázně Poděbrady, at the intersection of Lázeňská and Fügnerova streets. The building uses a light steel colonnade construction that connects to the existing urban fabric and creates a new public square. The colonnade structure allows flexible use of interior spaces while maintaining visual permeability between the street, the square, and the park. The vertical colonnade transitions from exterior to interior, creating a vertical communication element connecting all floors. The building contains a café/lounge on the ground floor, a technically equipped first floor with a variable community hall, fitness and wellness facilities with a pool, spa, and relaxation areas on upper floors. Terraces with views open toward the square, park, and street. The third floor contains smaller apartments and one larger unit. The overall design integrates the spa complex with the town while maintaining good visibility from the Polabí region.

Technical information

The building is a mixed-use civic structure with individual functional units distributed across floors. It features a lightweight steel colonnade construction system that builds upon the existing urban block structure. Floor plans show ground floor (1NP) and second floor (2NP) at 1:150 scale, with section AA at 1:250 and south and west elevations at 1:250. The center of the block contains a courtyard with two linden trees and a landscaped area connecting to the colonnade. The French windows on terraces open toward the park.
