Project idea

A foundation building dedicated to Zdeněk Sýkora, one of the most significant Czech painters and graphic artists of the 20th century, located in Prague's Letná district. The building serves as a cultural institution housing exhibition spaces, a bookstore, café, small auditorium, multifunctional hall, and the foundation's own offices.

Project description

The design emerges from the context of the site at the edge of Letná park and surrounding urban fabric. It creates a natural transition between the public green space and the urban environment. The building acts as a mediator between these two worlds, designed so that passersby are drawn in and can simultaneously see into the exhibition spaces from outside. The structure features transparent glass facades with a visible structural system, allowing views into and through the building. The exhibition spaces are designed with flexible layouts suitable for displaying both paintings and sculptural works, separated by landscaped terraces and enriched with greenery, evoking the feel of a museum rather than a conventional gallery.

Technical information

The building features multiple levels with sections, floor plans showing ground floor and upper levels. Cross-sections reveal the spatial organization across different levels accommodating exhibition halls, public amenities, and service areas. The structural system appears to use a reinforced concrete frame with extensive glazed curtain walls.
