A municipal library in Roztoky u Prahy designed as a sustainable building integrating with its natural surroundings, featuring curved organic forms that create intimate courtyards and green spaces with a water feature.
The project proposes a new municipal library for Roztoky u Prahy, designed with a curving plan that wraps around a central courtyard with a natural pond and lush vegetation. The building program includes a library hall, reading rooms, children's department, conference rooms, administration, a café, and community spaces. The two-story structure accommodates approximately 200 m² of library space, 60 m² of café, and 180 m² of community spaces. The design emphasizes connectivity between interior and exterior, with large windows and covered terraces allowing views into the garden. The organic building form responds sensitively to the surrounding context while creating a welcoming public space.
The project incorporates sustainable construction principles with a focus on thermal envelope optimization, solar panels for energy generation, and ground-source heat pump systems. The construction uses a material palette including timber structural elements and natural materials. The energy schema shows photovoltaic panels connected to battery storage and a heat pump system for heating. The building envelope thermal insulation strategy is detailed with calculations for heating requirements. The structural and material concept shows a layered assembly with timber framing, insulation, and natural cladding materials. Green roofs and biodiversity-supporting landscape elements are integrated into the sustainability scheme.
