Project idea

A circular farewell pavilion set in the landscape of Tichá Šárka, Prague, providing a contemplative space for saying goodbye, inspired by the ritual and emotional significance of parting.

Project description

The project creates a circular open pavilion — a 'Circle of Farewell' — situated in the natural landscape of Tichá Šárka in Prague. The design draws on the concept of a farewell room, a place that serves as a gathering point for parting rituals. The circular form symbolizes unity and continuity, offering an intimate yet open space for quiet reflection. The structure features a timber post-and-beam construction with a radial roof, surrounded by a wooden boardwalk that connects to the surrounding landscape via a raised pathway through grassland. Supporting facilities are housed in a separate elongated timber-clad volume nearby. The overall composition integrates sensitively with the natural context, using organic curves and natural materials.

Technical information

The documentation includes plans at 1:100 scale with sections and floor plans, as well as site plans at 1:500 and 1:2000 scales. The main circular structure uses a timber post-and-beam system with a radial roof structure. The material palette prioritizes solid wood species, with timber cladding on the service building. The boardwalk and deck are constructed of timber planking raised above the terrain. The circular plan includes a central farewell room and adjacent service/utility spaces (zázemí). A raised wooden pathway connects the pavilion to the access road.
