An entrance pavilion for the Holešovice exhibition grounds that draws inspiration from natural forms — trees, islands, and bridges — creating a structure that mediates between culture, art, nature, and the urban context of the fairground.
The project is an entrance building for the Holešovice exhibition grounds in Prague. The design is based on three conceptual elements: 'Strom' (Tree), 'Ostrov' (Island), and 'Most' (Bridge). The name V:ELES references the prehistoric Slavic relationship to the forest. The architecture is modular yet distinctive, serving as a landmark entry point. The structure features elevated timber platforms with greenery, creating a vertical garden-like tower that acts as both a functional entrance and a symbolic gateway. The design integrates geometric and organic principles, connecting the historical exhibition grounds with contemporary architectural expression.
The structure uses a timber and steel construction system. The floor plans are organized across multiple levels: 1.N.P. 'Ostrov' (ground floor) and 2.N.P. 'Strom' and 'Most' (upper floors). Plans are shown at 1:100 scale. Material solutions include CLT panels (200mm), steel columns (ISTND UN), timber beams (600x200mm), and various cladding materials. Sections A-A', B-B', and C-C' reveal the vertical organization with heights reaching approximately 13 meters. The design incorporates planter boxes integrated into the structural framework.
