Project idea

The main idea of the design is to provide both visual and physical accessibility. Emphasis is placed on cultivating public space and the overall appearance of the building mass so that it fits in and respects the surrounding urban context.

Project description

The design responds playfully and unexpectedly to the site. The gradation of building volumes ensures a smooth transition from low surrounding residential buildings to the dominant element of the sports hall. The stacking of volumes creates a pleasant space that intuitively and clearly leads into the interior of the building. The building is conceived as a multifunctional space serving both as a sports facility for the wider public and for organized sports. The central space with a buffet and entrance serves as a natural navigational element with a staircase. The sports hall provides dedicated space for sport with facilities for both amateur and professional teams, with logical connections to storage spaces.

Technical information

The building is founded on a flat foundation slab. The main halls are formed by reinforced concrete frames. The load-bearing system of the sports hall consists of steel columns on which steel truss girders are placed, with additional purlins functioning as a 2D frame system. The perforated facade is dominated by exterior vertical lamellas whose alternating depth creates a characteristic light texture. The flat roof of the sports hall is hidden behind a raised attic. The green roof is designed as an extensive green roof with a vegetation substrate placed on a waterproof membrane on panels.
