Project idea

The project addresses the design of a special care home (Domov se zvláštním režimem) in Prague 5. The concept draws from courtyard housing typologies that create intimate enclosed spaces while maintaining connections to the surrounding urban context. The building aims to provide a dignified living environment for residents requiring special care.

Project description

The design organizes residential units around courtyards, creating a series of interconnected volumes with varied roof forms. The facade employs terracotta-colored panels and balconies with wooden railings, providing warmth and human scale. The building comprises approximately 90 beds arranged in residential groups. The ground floor contains shared spaces including common rooms, dining facilities, and therapeutic areas, while upper floors house residential units. The massing is broken down into smaller volumes to reduce the institutional character and relate to the neighborhood scale.

Technical information

The building consists of a ground floor (1.PP) and two above-ground floors (1.NP, 2.NP). The facade system uses terracotta ceramic panels combined with balconies made of colored concrete railings and photovoltaic panels on the roof. The floor plans show residential units organized around central corridors with shared living spaces at key nodes. The section (ŘEZ AA') reveals the relationship between levels and the varied roof profile. The site plan shows the building's integration into the broader urban context of Prague 5.
