Conversion of a former power plant with a corner tower in Vratislavice nad Nisou into a carpet manufacturing museum, using a grid-based spatial system to organize exhibition and public spaces within the historic industrial structure.
The project transforms a former industrial power plant building with a distinctive tower into a museum dedicated to carpet production. The design concept, titled GRIDS, employs a modular grid system to organize the interior spaces while respecting the existing historic structure. The intervention includes new exhibition halls where large carpets can be displayed on walls, flexible partition systems highlighted in red that create varied spatial experiences, and the preservation of key industrial elements like the chimney and tower. The surrounding landscape is redesigned to integrate the building into its urban context with green areas and pathways.
The project includes detailed floor plans for multiple levels (basement and upper floors), cross-sections, elevations, and an exploded axonometric drawing showing the structural grid system. Construction details show the integration of new steel and glass elements within the existing masonry structure, including new window systems and structural connections. The red-colored insertions represent new architectural interventions within the historic shell, creating a clear distinction between old and new elements.
