Project idea

Purification of form and spatial transformation of an existing building within the Brokis glassworks campus in Janštejn, converting it into a multifunctional canteen with a flexible structural envelope.

Project description

The project involves the transformation of an existing structure on the Brokis glassworks campus in Janštejn into a canteen facility. The concept follows a process of simplification of the primary volume, extension of the primary structure to create an addition with a terrace, integration of green elements creating a planted mix connecting the industrial character of the glassworks with nature, and the addition of a passage connecting the building with the campus. The structural envelope uses a system of operable sliding panels, allowing a high degree of flexibility in the interior spatial configuration. The canteen serves as a dining area, kitchen/cooking area, storage facilities, and includes an underground floor with additional storage spaces. The terrace acts as a connecting element between the building and the surrounding landscape.

Technical information

The new structure uses aluminum for the structural framework, polycarbonate panels placed on the new structure for the envelope, and concrete for the existing building and site storage. The ground floor includes a dining area, kitchen/cooking area, offices, storage rooms, dish storage, and changing/resting areas. The underground floor contains corridors, storage spaces, furniture storage, and outdoor seating storage. Selected Brokis lights are integrated including Awa for the dining area, Overlay for bathrooms, and Bonbon for the garden and public square.
