Project idea

A museum of river transport showcasing the exposition of Vltava navigation, located in the Docklands Holešovice area of Prague. The design responds to the riverside context and the industrial heritage of the docklands district.

Project description

The project proposes a Museum of River Transport (Muzeum lodní dopravy) situated in the Holešovice Docklands area along the Vltava river. The building is organized into four main functional parts: the museum exhibition spaces, an educational section, a gallery, and an administrative section. The architectural expression combines brick cladding with modern glazed facades, creating a dialogue between the industrial character of the docklands and contemporary museum architecture. The massing is articulated through shifted volumes with a prominent vertical element bearing the 'MUZEUM' signage. The design integrates with the surrounding urban fabric and waterfront context.

Technical information

The building is a multi-story structure with 4 above-ground floors (1NP through 4NP). Documentation includes floor plans, two building sections (Řez A-A' and Řez B-B'), south and north elevations (Pohled jižní, Pohled severní), and a river-facing elevation (Pohled od Vltavy). Material solutions include brick cladding and modern facade systems. The concept diagrams show the massing strategy, parking scheme, and urban integration approach. The axonometric drawing illustrates the building's relationship to the surrounding terrain and infrastructure.
