Conversion and revitalization of a former industrial heating plant building into a new mixed-use cultural and community facility.
The project involves the adaptive reuse of a historic industrial building, likely a former coal-fired heating plant or power station, featuring a prominent chimney and tower. The design preserves the original masonry facades with their characteristic arched windows and circular openings while introducing new glass and steel interventions. The interior is transformed into open, multi-level spaces with exposed structural elements, accommodating coworking areas, lounges, and community gathering spaces. The exploded axonometric drawing reveals multiple floor levels inserted within the existing shell, maintaining the industrial character while creating contemporary functional spaces.
The project retains the existing masonry load-bearing walls and introduces a new steel and glass structural system within the historic envelope. The design includes detailed wall sections showing the integration of new floor plates with the existing structure, facade rehabilitation with new glazing systems, and careful detailing at the junction of old and new materials. Floor plans show the organization of spaces across multiple levels, with sections revealing the relationship between the tall industrial volumes and the inserted programmatic elements. Construction details address thermal envelope improvements, structural connections, and restoration of the existing brick and stone facades.
