Project idea

Conversion of a historic power plant and experience tower in Vratislavice nad Nisou, Liberec, transforming industrial heritage into a new cultural and community facility.

Project description

The project focuses on the adaptive reuse of an existing industrial complex – a former power plant (Elektrárna) and an experience tower in Vratislavice nad Nisou. The design preserves the iconic chimney and main industrial hall while introducing a new cylindrical tower structure with an external staircase, creating a vertical landmark and observation point. The existing building is opened up with new glazed facades and steel structural elements, allowing for flexible interior spaces. The surrounding landscape is redesigned to integrate the complex into the urban fabric with public green spaces and pathways.

Technical information

The project includes detailed floor plans at multiple levels, cross-sections, elevations, and construction details showing the relationship between the new steel and glass interventions and the existing masonry structure. An axonometric exploded view reveals the structural layers and spatial organization of the tower and main hall. Construction details show connections between new steel frameworks and the historic walls, as well as facade sections with glazing systems.
