Project idea

Designed a Cultural Centre in Puran Dhaka that celebrates Bangladeshi culture and promotes community engagement. The design features a multifunctional stair connecting the rooftop and public spaces, enhancing social interaction and supporting Shakrain Festival activities.

Project description

A community-focused cultural centre designed to celebrate the heritage and traditions of Puran Dhaka while creating an engaging public space for all age groups. The project includes a lobby, auditorium, multipurpose hall, cultural classrooms, café, amphitheatre garden, and accessible rooftop spaces. A distinctive entrance stair integrated with greenery and water elements serves as the project's focal point, connecting the ground level to the roof and encouraging social interaction. The tilted roofs, shaded outdoor areas, and open-access corridors respond to the local climate by reducing heat gain and enhancing comfort. The rooftop and circulation spaces are designed to accommodate community gatherings and traditional events such as the Shakrain Festival, strengthening cultural identity and community participation.

Technical information

The project utilizes a palette of red sandstone, exposed brick, pigmented concrete, and wood, reflecting the architectural character of Puran Dhaka while ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal. The building is constructed using a reinforced concrete structural system for strength and long-term performance. Sustainability and climate responsiveness are enhanced through tilted green roofs designed for rainwater harvesting, perforated walls that promote natural ventilation, and generous corridor spaces that improve airflow, circulation, and user comfort throughout the building.
