The central idea behind this pavilion, came from the local streets of Jaipur, India, where narrow streets, low rising structures and courtyards define spaces of movement, stillness, isolation, and interaction, through subtle gestures like wall heights, textures, and light. A similar concept of space-making is employed in the pavilion, where simple elements like walls, ledges, courtyards, enclose spaces which frame the rugs as the central element of exhibition, their texture and colors becoming one with the overall design.
Loomed Pathways, is a pavilion designed for the Jaipur Rugs Pavilion Design competition. The site was a 20 x 3 meter interior exhibition space, the linearity of the site provided an interesting challenge to create a public exhibition space. The layout has a central exhibition space with screens exhibiting the brands ethos, and history, on either side of this room are exhibition spaces made through an interplay of low rising, filleted walls, reflecting a humble, yet sophisticated space, much like the brand is. Care has been taken to ensure the rugs stay at the forefront of the exhibition, their textures over the simple rustic walls reflecting how rugs are kept in traditional rug making villages.
Since it was a temporary interior exhibition space, much of the construction is made to be easily disassembled, with simple wall assemblies with aluminum framing and gypsum partitions, with recesses housing modular storage compartments, and electrical conduits for the lighting fixtures.
