Project idea

The main idea of the project is to create a seamless transition between the outdoor environment of the flood park by the Svratka River and the inner space of a new leisure center. Although the proposal includes a comprehensive architectural design of the pavilion itself, the main emphasis in this work is placed on the internal layout and atmosphere. The interior concept relies on the truthfulness of materials, exposing the load-bearing structure, and targeted work with natural light. The goal was to design an inspiring, open, and functional environment for culture and creative development that brings all-day life to the quiet zone of the park and offers attractive spaces for community gatherings for residents of the adjacent district.

Project description

The interior design of the two-story leisure center is characterized by a deliberately simple and clear layout. The ground floor is intersected by a public covered passage, which prevents the building from forming an impenetrable barrier in the park and naturally connects it with the surroundings. This passage also divides the ground floor into two main functional zones: a lively cafe with a direct connection to the external terrace, and an art gallery utilizing a flexible system of sliding interior partitions. The exhibition space continues seamlessly on the second floor, visually connected to the ground floor via a vertical void. This is adjoined by an educational zone with an art classroom and studios. A specific and innovative interior feature here is a multifunctional dividing furniture wall that cleverly connects the spaces for teachers and students.

Technical information

The architectural envelope of the building consists of twentyfive exposed reinforced concrete ribs, which are fully exposed in the interior, becoming the main aesthetic feature – defining a unique rhythm, plasticity, and raw character throughout the entire internal space. The skeletal frame allows for extensive glazing of the facade and roof, through which soft diffused light is brought into the studios and gallery, regulated by linen roller blinds. The material solution of the floors responds to the specific needs of individual zones: durable terrazzo is used in the cafe, while a more industrial epoxy resin prevails in the gallery and studios.
