To create a cultural hub that celebrates Borneo’s heritage, traditions, and community spirit through interactive spaces for learning, gathering, and cultural exchange while promoting sustainable design principles.
The Borneo Malaysia Community Centre is envisioned as a living bridge between East and West Malaysia, a place that reconnects the people of Sabah and Sarawak with their homeland through culture, architecture, and shared memory. Many from Borneo who live, study, or work in West Malaysia find themselves distanced from their traditions and sense of belonging. This project seeks to bring that feeling of home closer, creating a space that celebrates identity, unity, and the spirit of community. Inspired by the Borneo longhouse, the design embodies the essence of togetherness, a place where life unfolds collectively, where stories are shared, and where connection defines daily living. The longhouse’s open structure and communal rhythm inform the project’s architectural language, blending traditional values with modern sensibilities. Every corner of the centre invites interaction, celebration, and cultural exchange, echoing the warmth and openness of Borneo’s people.
The centre is a home away from home, built upon the values of unity, respect, and remembrance. It redefines what it means to belong, transforming cultural preservation into a living, evolving experience. Through architecture, it celebrates identity, embraces sustainability, and ensures that the heart of Borneo continues to beat proudly across the nation.
