Project idea

The overarching vision of this project is to transform the oppressive, historical containment of Warehouse 9 into a vibrant, forward-looking civic ecosystem that redefines the traditional paradigm of memorial architecture. At its core, the project is driven by two symbiotic concepts: The Active Monument and The Embracing Wisdom. The primary goal of The Active Monument is to act as a spatial mediator that heals industrial trauma by injecting dynamic civic energy, recreation, and social interaction directly into the preserved ruins. Rather than keeping history at a distance, this approach turns the weight of the past into the momentum of the future through a fluid, porous landscape. Complementing this, the goal of The Embracing Wisdom is to democratize education by replacing rigid, institutional boundaries with a curved, enveloping morphology. This architecture acts as a nurturing embrace, establishing a sanctuary of collective intellect where learning is deeply integrated with nature.

Project description

This project transforms the industrial trauma of Warehouse 9 into a fluid civic and educational ecosystem. It replaces the traditional, static memorial with The Active Monument—a porous landscape that injects dynamic community life and recreation directly into preserved ruins. Integrated within this park is The Embracing Wisdom, an educational sector featuring a curved, organic morphology designed to act as a nurturing, protective sanctuary for continuous, intergenerational learning.

Technical information

Respecting Context Through Simplicity
The material palette of the project is intentionally restrained, relying on the honest, raw expression of timber and concrete. This choice directly responds to the historical context of the site—balancing the preservation of solemn memory with the warmth required for a thriving community center.
