Project idea

The idea of this project stems from the need of the Ružinov district to rehabilitate the original historical center of Prievoz and bring life back to the former municipal town hall and the adjacent Notary's House. The goal is to create a vibrant public space and representative facilities for cultural and social events (weddings, lectures, concerts) that seamlessly connect with the Town Hall Square (Radničné námestie). The project introduces a sustainable operational model for this national cultural monument through a sensitive renovation that respects history while serving current community needs.

Project description

This project consists of the following parts: the Town Hall and the Notary's House, designed as two autonomous units that can operate independently or merge when needed. The Town Hall serves representative purposes, with its southern wing retaining its function as a wedding and lecture hall, and the central circular space under the dome dedicated to art installations and exhibitions. The Notary's House handles daily operations, featuring a café (which also provides catering for the town hall) and a newly accessible attic space hosting an office, a small library, and community activities. The scope also includes opening the northern and southern courtyards to the public and revitalizing the square with carefully selected greenery that preserves views of the monument.

Technical information

The technical specification of the project combines two distinct preservation approaches. The historical Town Hall undergoes conservative restoration to maximally protect its original functionalist layout and Palladian layout, leaving the representative main floor free of any restrooms or disruptive structures. Conversely, the Notary's House adopts a more open approach, removing non-valuable partition walls and partially opening the ceilings to enhance natural light and airiness. A new integrated staircase and elevator core provides vertical connection, unlocking the full potential of the underground areas beneath both buildings to accommodate new restrooms (including wheelchair-accessible facilities) while granting access to the previously unused attic.
