A transformable performance space based on the concept of 'harmony' in music, where different functions coexist without complete separation, proposing a flexible spatial arrangement that allows simultaneous different experiences while maintaining holistic unity.
Unite Art Center is located on Cinnah Avenue in the Çankaya district of Ankara, situated within a mixed-use urban environment with dense urban fabric. The region is a hub where residential, office, and cultural functions coexist, characterized by strong pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The concept derives from musical 'harmony,' proposing a spatial configuration where different functions can coexist without complete separation. Semi-permeable boundaries, layered volumes, and flexible dividers allow users to experience different activities simultaneously while the space operates in holistic harmony. The limited size of the space requires a flexible and transformable spatial setup to enable different music activities to occur simultaneously. This allows the area to be divided and merged into semi-open spaces as needed, enabling usage potential that transforms from individual practice to group performance.
The project features a ground floor plan and first basement floor plan at 1/50 scale. The ground floor includes entrance/reception, bar/cafe, event area, seating area, mini performance space, and exhibition passage areas. The basement floor contains recording studio, control room, archive area, note study area, podcast area, offices, WC, practice/work rooms, listening library, repair area, and instrument storage. A 5-layer Velour Acoustic Curtain system is employed consisting of velvet fabric + acoustic felt + sound barrier + acoustic felt + velvet fabric for sound management. Individual working points can be combined to transform into group rehearsal areas.
